Welcome! About us:

Offering drawing experiences since 1989. Read Our Mission Statement

  • We are an incorporated not-for-profit art organization, run by a board of directors (contact info) and volunteer hosts. Money collected goes to paying the model, the rent, and for snacks. Any surplus goes to equipment and a slush fund for less populated nights.

  • We are open every Wednesday night, except in 2008 we are closed for 3 Wednesdays: during our group show, Christmas, & New Year. If snow closes Syracuse City schools, we close too!

  • Location: the Westcott Community Center, corner of Euclid and Westcott Streets.
We are on the second floor. Come in the main entrance and up the elevator or stairs on the left. Bring a friend!

  • The fee is $8.00 per night. A punch card, good for 5 visits, is available at the door for $32*. We remain one of Syracuse's most economical drawing experiences. Correct change is appreciated but not necessary. Make checks payable to Open Figure Drawing Inc.

*Every punch card comes with a coupon for 10% off at The Art Store (Commercial Art Supply). If you already receive a discount, such as a student discount, this coupon gives you another 10% off your already discounted price.

  • Come early… the doors open at approximately 6:45. Pay and sign-in on entry. Help set up and claim your spot. The model starts promptly at 7:00 pm. A reminder: take care not to block your neighbor's view.

Stay until closing… At 10:00 pm we begin cleaning and packing up. If everyone helps, we can finish by 10:15.

Come and go as you like. One fee covers whatever part of the night you attend. Work on whatever pleases you. This is a self-instructional group. Other educational opportunities are available. Please inquire about the calendar.

  • Schedule of poses:
    five two minute gestures
    five one minute gestures
    and five 30 second gestures
    one 10 minute pose
    one 20 minute pose
a 20 minute break for the model
    one 30 minute pose
    and one 60 minute pose

Break time is 8-ish. We have approximately 20 minutes for announcements and socializing. Snack usually consists of soda and juice, veggies, cookies, bread, chips and dip.

  • Equipment is stored in the closet opposite the sign-in table. We have eight drawing tables, a dozen easels, and numerous drawing boards. Please return items when finished. There is a small supply of paper and drawing supplies for emergencies.

The restroom is located in the rear of the building

Trash is near the door to the WCC gallery (unless someone has moved it).

  • We strive to be chemical free. Please use fixatives outside of the building. Please keep smelly or noxious materials at home, including perfumes, oils and markers.

Recording devices such as cameras, cam recorders, or phones are not permitted.

Quiet talk is permitted but please be respectful of your neighbors.

  • We try to provide a diverse pool of models. We randomly alternate model genders. If you know of any good models, or someone who is interested in modeling, or hosting, please contact us.

  • Participants under 18 should provide parental permission.

  • Help us make figure drawing a satisfying experience. If you have any questions, suggestions, or problems, please contact us,
