William Benson

"Lindsey"
artist: William Benson
oil on linen
William Benson received his BFA degree from the Cornell University Fine Arts Department. After graduation, he found success both as a portrait painter and painting for himself and exhibiting his work in several gallery exhibitions. He is recognized as a figurative, landscape and still life painter. He is currently represented by the Dyansen Gallery in Boston, MA, Portraits, Inc. in New York City, Portrait Consultants in White Plains, NY, Portraits South in Raleigh, NC and The Portrait Source in Hendersonville, NC.

Benson says, "I grew up drawing... everything - people, figures, landscapes, monsters and flowers. My sensibilities in painting have been defined by a continuing respect and admiration for those before me who have wielded the great representational brush. Believing also that there is as much power and emotion in abstraction, I am attempting to reconcile the two in my work, whether in landscapes or with the figure or still life."

Recently, Benson has begun to focus on depicting the landscape in upstate New York, where he makes his home.
